Ok ok...now that the Holy Shit moment is over..Allow me to enlighten all of you. Sometime time back..we relocated a vet to Citra just north of Ocala which is what I claim is my home town. Talk started about possibly bringing DTRT to that area in the hopes of helping the local Vets as well as physically expanding our reach. This vet went to town and actually found a spot that would work at a decent price. Today we closed the deal on a two year lease for DTRT #2 at
17052 301 north
B2 suitw #3
Citra FL 32113.
This will not only allow us to expand inland ..but now it gives this vet a newfound sense of purpose. He will be running the store on a daily basis and Monica and I will be splitting our time between the two locations.getting this thing up and running. We already have a handle on what will be stocked and available to our patrons as we can now take over stock from Tville and give it more availability in a different location( Suck it Goodwill ..I'll do it better) So for all.of you Marion County friends and followers of ours ..you guys have something to get involved with...contact us and let us know what you would like to help with and we will gladly bring you on Board. Store will be closed on Sundays for now but will be open from 9-6 Mon thru Sat. If you would like to help with painting carpentry or clean up we would be happy to have you along. And for all.of you that has stated that we will fold .....Explain this then...until you can, keep falling on your ass in the snow in Europe will we keep working
Please make notes of Holiday Hours for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve:
Christmas Eve - Saturday, December 24th - 10 AM - 3 PMNew Years Eve - Saturday, December 31st - 10 AM - 3 PM
Ok..so we gots a few days left before Christmas...come by and see if there's anything you have been hunting but couldn't find anywhere else. Still have plenty of decorations as well, so come get em.
While I'm at it ..I'd like to remind everyone of our new approach to pricing. We aren't pricing anything any longer, YOU are! Make a donation and walk out with what you want! We ask that you be fair taking into account what we do for vets and their families. Seriously ..no donation refused. It keeps things moving out the door , you get some cool stuff at the price you can afford , and we can continue to take care of our vets as their needs are made known. There literally is no catch here , so come down and try it out.
In closing , Myself, Monica , Chrissy, Becky , Lori, Bernice, and everyone at DTRT wish you and yours a VERY MerryChristmas and a Happy and safe New year! We will be closing 3pm SHARP for both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
Be sure to come by and see us today(Sunday) ..we gots TONS of Christmas stuff and our guest pricing can't be beat by anybody...come in..pick out what you want..and make a donation..that's it..super easy..you get what you want and help out a great cause at the same time...
If you shop using Amazon Smile we're on that list.
All that being said, I want to thank all of you for sticking it out with us through the most trying times DTRT has endured yet. Hell I'll even thank those on the other side of it.hadn't been for all of you , we would have never wound up in a much better, safer , and more visible location. most all of the staff will be here tomorrow ..come by and say Hi..
Are open? Are we closing? Why did we move again?? ( Yeah I'm over it as well.) What is DTRT's mission moving forward? Here's the answers :
#1 Yes as of TODAY Nov 17th we have our new license from the city and a new (to us) 3,500 Sq ft Space located at 228 Cheney Highway ( Highway 50) in Titusville.
#2 HELL NO!!!!!!!
#3 This is a long one and I do not fight my battles in a public forum, as that can lead to some very unpleasant results as others are about to find out the hard way.
#4 As of right now we have placed our furniture program on a sort of hiatus. Should a vet need something to better their quality of life, then we are here for them, however we are no longer working with outside agencies to facilitate furnishing apartments. The Dover Detail has been growing by leaps and bounds and one individual can manage it if needed. The thrift store will financially support Dover as needed so that Vet families can continue to depend on us for Burial Uniforms when the need arises.
This past year ( June 11th and Nov 11th I personally have taken two Honor Flights to D.C. which has been life changing to say the least . As a result , DTRT will begin supporting Space Coast Honor Flight on future flights by sponsoring Guardians for Vets when the time comes . We have also trimmed down the staff a bit and consolidated the volunteer work force to a select few . If you are interested please come by and ask about it and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
You may have also noticed a different tone to some recent postings as we have had some really great people pitch in and help out behind the scenes to help get this ship righted. That being said Cassandra Burn-Jansto and Janet Beddow Helms ..(better known as the Patriot Sisters) were instrumental in helping us get back on track in every aspect and our recovery would not have been possible without them . THANK YOU LADIES!!!
More to come but it's been a long day. The doors at 228 Cheney Highway will be open tomorrow . The place is in a bit of disaaray and we are still putting things together, but come on down and help find new homes for all of this stuff!
I received today, a great testimonial from a Veteran family who knows exactly the good this organization has done for our community. I'm sharing with her consent & she will be at the Rally tomorrow!
"My husband is a medically retired Marine, we have six children together, and we have been homeless twice. Jerry has furnished our home twice. Once when the first home we found ourselves in after homelessness failed inspection for VASH. He even replaced the non working appliances the landlord provided with fully working ones! A couple years ago when that same landlord decided not to renew and was turning the home into a rooming house, we found ourselves panicked. After 4 years of torment, from her and her helpers, her home literally falling apart around us as we spent our bill money to repair so it would continue to pass so we didn't end up homeless again, here we were facing it again. We found a wonderful couple to rent from, and Jerry let us leave all those painful memories behind when he pulled up and furnished our new place before we moved in. The kitchen table and chairs, couch, beds for all of us, washer dryer, entertainment centers, chairs dressers ALL of it. We walked through the door and we were home and SAFE. This mission, it changes lives, it changed our lives, it NEEDS to stay open!
We can share more details at a later time if needed, but we just can not even express how much this mission means to us, and how much they do for the community!" -Krystal
From the #DownTheRoadThrift team, **THANK YOU** for all of your continued support!! Once again our community showed up and graciously poured out their love, support and kindness to us today at the store. Not only did we all feel the love and care from so many who stopped by, but we also had numerous customers provide additional donations to their sales tab after shopping in our store. THANK YOU!! We are so very appreciative & thankful!!
After 2 years in Cocoa we have made the decision to move to the Titusville Mall.
This will allow us to continue to serve our Vets in these very trying times.
As a result, starting today , we are throwing the current store into blowout sale mode. Our 5 dollar bag sale on clothing is now 2 bags for 5$. ALL REASONABLE OFFERS WILL BE CONSIDERED. Keep in mind we are culling our stock for the new location so some items will not be available, but we promise you we want to move as little as possible .
As for the new location ...we have secured a space in the present building and are locked in for an expanded space in the new Retail complex once it is built. We look forward to seeing everyone at the new location but for the next 2 weeks we are transitioning to moving mode so we will only be accepting donations that are absolutely needed.
Feel free to contact us should you have any questions..
This Saturday, July 25th, our Back to School giveaway in partnership with Brevard Shoes for School will start at 9am. To receive a NEW pair of shoes for your child you must:
Have the child with you, or
Have the child's birth certificate.
We are also asking that ALL PARTICIPANTS WEAR A MASK.
Social distancing markers will also be placed outside to keep all families safe from exposure. This is our way of showing all of our kids that people do genuinely care about each other regardless of any current social issues.
Volunteer security will be on hand in case anyone needs assistance. We will also be asking for some basic info to track where families are coming from to ensure proper coverage.
Example: 50 families come in from Palm Bay, then next year we add an additional giveaway in Palm Bay. That simple. We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!
And for those that don't know where we're located:
238 PEACHTREE ST.
COCOA, FL 32922
Nothing like a new pair of shoes for that trip…..
